1.                What are Drugs?
 
               “Substances that affect the chemical and physical functioning of the brain are called drugs. Drugs are often termed “mind-altering” because they change perceptions and the behavior.”

2.                What is Addiction?
 
  • Any Substance or habit that you physically or emotionally need to feel normal everyday.
  • Addiction affects
  • Body of am addict person will crave the drug but never be satisfied. 


  • Three main cause of Drug Addiction:
 
  • Peer Pressure
  • Failure in relationship
  • Escape reality



3.              Stages of addiction:
                       
  • The First stage is Experimentation:
 
You feel:
  • No negative consequences.
  • You learn to trust the allurement.
  • You learn how much to use to feel great.



  • The second stage is social usage:
 
The use of Drugs:
  • Becomes a more regular routine.
  • You make this a part of your social life.
  • You make safe rules for self-regulating.
  • Your trust becomes locked on allurement.
 
  •  The third stage is daily preoccupation:
 
The Drug:
  • Become a harmful dependency.
  • It violates your value system.
  • You can’t block out the emotional pain.
  • Unresolved problems produce stress and strain.
 
  • The last stage of addiction:
 
  • You start to have paranoid thinking-delusion.
  • You have no desire to live.
  • You loose the control and dignity.
  • You have broken family relationship.


4.             How are drugs affecting your family and society?
 


  • Drugs are destroying our nation:
 
        There are over 7 million unofficial and 5 million reported drug addicted in Pakistan.
        Over 60 % of them are between the age of 12 and 25.
        Pakistan is a major drug route for exported heroin.
       There are over 1.5 million female drug addicts.
       These 7 million are nor productive members of society.


5.             How do drugs affect our body?
 
  • Drugs and the body:

              Drugs burn the body’s vitamins.
 
 
  • Drugs dull all your senses:
 
  • They entered or body either by smoking inhaling, drinking or injecting.
  • They enter our blood stream and eventually reach our most important organ our brain.
  • In the brain is where drugs do the real damage. They kill cells.

6.      Danger signs of Drug Use:
 
  •  A drastic change in attitude.
  •  Withdrawal from relationships.
  • A rebellious spirit.
  • Poor grades in school, college & university.
  • Changing of friends and activities.
  • Lying becomes a way of life.
  • Hides his plans from loved ones.
  • Stealing to meet his needs.
  • Wants to stay out late at night.


7.    Physical signs of Drug Use:
 
  • They develop circles under their eyes.
  • They look tired all the time.
  • They appear shaky and are restless.
  • Personal hygiene starts to slack off.
  • Track marks on the arms.
  • Lose their appetite.
  • They avoid gatherings or isolate themselves.
  • They lose weight.
  • They become more irritable.

8.    How can we remain drug free?
       Determine to just say NO!
       How to say NO?

 
  • Don’t be idle.
  • Achieve excellence in positive activities such as studies, sports, music, reading, etc.
  • Choose your friends wisely.
  • A person is known by the company s/he keeps.
  • Find a mentor.
  • Have someone that you can go to and express your feelings and receive wise counsel.
  • Develop your relationship with God.
